About Me

My name is Owen McNamara. I'm originally from the Rochester area of New York, but moved to Phoenix, Arizona a couple years ago. I have many hobbies, the major ones being mythology, entomology, writing, drawing, reading, movies, and music. My big passion in life, however, is video games. Not just playing them, but creating, designing, imagining, programming, and even just discussing them. Video games = serious business.

I've been playing games on the family Atari 2600 since not long after learning how to walk. From there it was a constant fascination with my cousin's Nintendo and watching my uncles playing Doom and Hexen. When I finally had my own computer at the age of twelve, I obtained my own copy of Doom, and soon after discovered the fledgling modding community. Through the tools available I took my first steps towards game design, creating my own levels, models and other custom content.

Since then I've tried modding in several different games and game engines. From Doom to Time Splitters, to Half-Life's Worldcraft, to Unreal Tournament 2004. Now I work mostly with the Source engine's Hammer editor and the Unreal 3 engine. I also do a lot of work with Flash, combining Photoshop and Illustrator with Actionscript 2 and 3. Some influences (and objects of adoration) for my design philosophy include Valve Software, Infinity Ward, Team Silent, and Introversion Software. Inspiration comes from authors like H. P. Lovecraft, the music I listen to, my various hobbies, and my own creatively twisted mind.

Currently I'm leading a team to create an original title using the Unreal 3 engine. The game is called Null Grav, and more information is available on our ModDB page, located here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/null-grav. We are currently looking for a publisher so we can make our dream a full-fledged reality.
